Pig Sales policy

Before reaching out regarding the purchase of a pig, please take a moment to carefully read through our sales policies. By initiating contact with us, you confirm your understanding and acceptance of these policies. A completed and signed agreement form must accompany your initial inquiry to move forward with a purchase.

Reservations

Bittersweet Barn maintains a reservation list for planned breeding pairings, which you may request to join at no cost. Once a piglet from your chosen pairing is born, you will have 48 hours from the time we contact you to submit a 50% deposit. If the deposit is not received within that time frame, the piglet may be made available to the public. Deposits are applied toward the final purchase price. Please note that deposits are non-refundable unless Bittersweet Barn determines that the piglet is unfit for breeding or a medical issue arises.

Buyers may request additional photos or videos of a piglet prior to placing a deposit. Deposits may be made via cash, Venmo Friends & Family, PayPal Friends & Family, or through Venmo/PayPal Goods & Services (with the buyer covering any associated fees). Bittersweet Barn reserves the right to retain any piglet from any breeding, regardless of reservation status, and to refuse a sale at any time.

Adult pigs are occasionally available for sale. A 50% deposit is required within 24 hours of confirming the sale in order to hold the pig until pick-up. If the deposit is not received within that timeframe, the pig may be offered to other interested buyers.

Reservation requests may be submitted through our website, email, Facebook, or Instagram pages.

Health Guarantee

All pigs offered for sale are warranted to be in apparent good health at the time of transfer. Prospective buyers are strongly encouraged to conduct their own assessment of the animal, either personally or through a licensed veterinarian of their choice, prior to finalizing the purchase and taking possession. Each pig will be current on all applicable vaccinations, deworming protocols, hoof care, and other routine health measures as deemed appropriate prior to the sale.

Bittersweet Barn cannot guarantee the health of any animal once it has left our premises. We do not offer exchanges, returns, or refunds except in the event that a genetic defect is later identified and verified by documentation from a licensed veterinarian. All piglets will be microchipped or ear-tagged prior to leaving our farm.

Buyers are encouraged to notify us of any medical concerns that arise. We are always happy to provide guidance or refer you to a trusted veterinarian for further care.

Pick-Up And Transfer of Possession

Piglets are available for pick-up once weaned, at 8 weeks of age. Buyers must coordinate a pick-up date with Bittersweet Barn. If a piglet is not picked up within 7 days of the scheduled pick-up date, a boarding fee of $5 per day will apply. If a piglet remains unclaimed 14 days past the scheduled date without prior arrangements, the deposit will be forfeited, and the piglet may be offered for sale to the public.

Bittersweet Barn is willing to meet within a 30-mile radius of the farm if arranged in advance by the buyer. Registration paperwork, if applicable, will be transferred at the time of sale. If the paperwork is unavailable at the time of transfer, it will be mailed to the buyer within 30 days of the sale.

Sales Prices

Prices vary based on several factors, including the pig’s registration status, the genetics and achievements of its parents, show or breeding potential, and other relevant characteristics. Buyers on the waitlist are guaranteed the price listed at the time of their initial inquiry; otherwise, prices are subject to change.

Discounts are available for buyers who participate in shows or are involved in 4H. Buyers who are a 4H home are eligible for a $50 discount, and buyers who are a show home are also eligible for a $50 discount, for a total possible discount of $100. Verification of participation must be provided to Bittersweet Barn, and the buyer must request these discounts at the time of purchase.

Sales Agreement

A signed sales agreement is required when placing a reservation or requesting to purchase a pig. Please email the completed agreement to BittersweetBarnRPK.com.
